Pattern Making

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Some study of patterns is included in all clothing courses that are concerned with the making of garments. The type of work that is given and the purpose of such study vary greatly in the different grades or with the emphasis that is given to this problem by different teachers. Every girl who undertakes to plan, cut, and fit clothing for herself or for any one else should know something about the shape of each of the _pieces of the pattern that she uses, and understand what effect a modification or change of any line In a pattern will have on the cut or shape of the garment. Such knowledge not only makes her more intelligent in the selection and in the use of patterns, but, if this study of patterns has been comprehensive enough, it should give her power to adapt patterns to the needs of an individual figure and to change the lines of a pattern in order to produce some special eifect.
