Zigbee is one of the latest technologies developed by the Zigbee Alliance to enable WPAN. Zigbee technology has better characteristics when compared with other wireless standards such as Wi-Fi, WiMAX and so on. Though the transmission range in the Zigbee ranges up to a few meters, network has several layers, designed to enable the interpersonal communication within the network and appropriate routing techniques which can lead the data to be reached to the longer distance, leading to the increase in the signal transmission range. Present research emphases on signal transmission range in the Zigbee network. For the analysis, the Simulink based software called TRUETIME 2.0 in MATLAB tool has been used. Energy Efficient Zigbee based AODV routing protocol with incorporated CSMA-CA MAC channel access is proposed for determining a route to a destination node. Various network simulation scenarios are created to understand the effect of performance metrics on the performance of Zigbee network. To maximize the signal transmission range of Zigbee network, various soft computing techniques are used. A part of hardware implementation of Zigbee Network is done on ARM 7 based controller.
