Brian La Trobe retired from Dental practice in 1986 topursue his environmental interests. He designed SouthAfricas first energy from waste programme using the landfillsite of Grahamstown South Africa. Later, on behalf of theSouth African Research Commission, he researched anddeveloped a sanitation treatment system which requiredno water. He then established a company to field test thetechnology. Finally in 1993 the Enviro Loo unit went intoproduction. To date some 55,000 units have been sold intothe African market and exported internationally to manyCountries, including the USA. Some years ago, he retiredas Chairman of Enviro Options (Pty) Ltd. He now lives inretirement with his wife,Peggy, in Johannesburg where heoccupies his time recording old memories.
