This book is dedicated to three survivors of the Hammon flood of April 3rd and 4th, 1934 - a father and his two young sons, one on the edge of manhood and the other still a small child not yet three. From the devastation of that night, these three became the foundation of their family today. Though the story told here blends fiction with fact, its heart is drawn from real memories, real histories, and the lived experiences of those who came before us. How these three managed to endure the terror of that night and the long, painful aftermath is nothing short of miraculous. They survived not only the flood and the loss of a wife and mother, six daughters and sisters, but also the grinding years that followed: the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and eventually World War II. Their courage carried them through each trial, and their resilience shaped the generations that followed.
