Myths — stories within oneselfMyths is a picture book of text and photographs that aims to capture the moment otherwise lost in the millions of minutes of speeding time. It freezes what else would melt into the forgetfulness of all our yesterdays. Photos are from the butoh performance Myytit/Myths and from ever-surprising nature. Butoh arises from the subliminal myths of our dormant recollections. It is a moving record of the half-forgotten, and when performed out of doors, reunites both performance and spectator with the elemental forces of nature. Butoh is the living mirror of our shared lives.

Art, as I, Osku Leinonen, perceive it, is about knowing that man is a creature of infinite complexity. By expressing himself, he conveys the hidden yearnings of his silent brothers, becoming the voice of the voiceless, the sound of his silenced neighbours. Art, in my vision, is the truest confession of otherwise restricted man. For we all have yearnings, but it is the artist who makes tangible what is otherwise, intangible. If the reader is inspired to reflect on his own convoluted and personal odyssey, then Myths will have succeeded in reaching our neighbours who share this precious gift of the life experience.
