My Roller Coaster Life as the Husband of an Alcoholic

When I realised that my wife was an alcoholic I made a decision to stick by her for as long as I possibly could. I had seen the statistics, including those concerning the children of alcoholics, but I was determined not to allow any of my family become one of these. The outcomes for children of addicts are bad enough, but for the ones from broken homes they are even worse. As I saw it I had a chance to narrow the odds for my childrenOs sake, by staying with my wife and making a damn good go of things. What I never expected, when setting out on this very difficult journey, was the total abandonment my family would suffer at the hands of the out-laws. My story is one of hope and sheer determination in the face of adversity. It definitely isnOt what I would recommend for everyone, and I will not know if my choice has been the right one for some time. Nevertheless, I have no regrets about trying.
