My Life as Sage: Part One

This is the story of my life, and it begins before the war between the North and South. I grew up in a time of slavery. My mother was a slave and my father was the son of her Master. I was born from their affair, and sold when I was still a baby.I was raised by a loving woman, who treated me like her own, not like the slave I was, in the eyes of the law and society. But, when the war came and she was taken from me one violent night, things changed, sending me down a path of many heartaches. The man who would be next to purchase me, was the cause of most of my heartaches, leaving me with scars that would last for the rest of my days. He and his family did their best to destroy me, yet I did not break.My name is Sage. . . and this is the beginning of my story.
