This research paper was written in1978 by Ward Merkeley, M.D. whenhe was a first year medical studentattending the University Of UtahSchool of Medicine. The paper discusses intechnical detail the means of isolatingand inserting a normal hemogloblingene into the erythoid stem cells ofpeople with Sickle Cell Anemia and BThalassemia. The difficulties andlimitation of Gene Therapy arediscussed in detail, as well as, someethical considerations.
