The work was not widely known then and has remained in obscurity.Its value lies in two facts: first, it documents the New Fourth Army's activities in the enemy's rear area and depicts the growth of the anti-Japanese force, which served to inspire the national pride and determination; second, the well-wrought subject and vivid and engaging description are of prominent artistic significance.
