Looking for Dean

All the action takes place on a summer night in 1979 as two teenagers search for a quarter-pound of pot. As adults sleep after watching Saturday Night Live, lifelong friends Mike and Dave travel through a suburban and exurban world of loose waitresses, wild bonfires, psychedelic drugs, the birth of rap and punk, and outlaws. The boys show uncanny resourcefulness as the sweaty after-midnight escalates from teenage boredom to adventure, menace and violence.A memoir of sorts about the THC-soaked late 1970s, "Looking for Dean" describes trouble in the American suburbs. The story demonstrates how drug culture and distant adults can generate children who navigate what from the outside looks like a pastoral existence but truly holds all the dangers of any dark human community.
