For Mum and Dad (but mostly for Mum)

It was both the shortest and most difficult lap,

That which went around the far side of my mother''s bed, 

Down the length of her dressing table, and into her ensuite bathroom. 

We asked that her sprinter''s legs would carry her past the finish line. 

By the end, I am not sure if it were her legs or mine, 

If we stepped or stumbled, but by some miracle, 

We had got there, and 

The race was finally finished.
