The book includes approximately forty critical articles, dealing with Arabic narrative texts and short story collections. Each of these works was treated as a collective material that raises its own questions and is unique in its characteristics. The articles were written in response to the effect obtained after reading the literary works, each one individually, without being subject to a pre-prepared reading program, and without any deliberate approach in this context. This explains the presence of some narrative experiences and the absence of others in one country, just as it explains the focus on narrative production in some Arab countries more than others. It also explains the variation in the level of experiences discussed, in terms of technique and subject matter, and the disparity in training and writing experience. Nevertheless, it can be said that bringing these articles together illuminates parts of the panoramic ensemble of Arab narratives published in the last two decades, and seeks to explore the path they have charted for themselves, revealing common denominators and general features that frame them, without claiming to provide a clear picture of them in all their dimensions.
