Tim and his best friend Andy are survivors. Tim's mom left him when he was three and Andy's dad has just passed away. They are bonded by the tragedy of losing a parent and also their love of football. The twins, Donna and Bobby Wilson, have just moved into Tim and Andy's town. Like Tim and Andy, the twins are gifted athletes. However, they have a dark family secret that they hope to conceal. Tim develops a relationship with Donna while Bobby and Andy become embroiled in the vortex of drug and alcohol use. As Tim and Donna's relationship grows stronger, the three families must deal with the toxins of loss and violence. These poisons come out when the four friends become seniors and captains of their teams. Will their tragedies destroy the teams they play for and the town they love?
