Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The variations and transmutations of its forms, the changing character of its decorative designs in successive periods, and the marks of its potters, tell a chronological tale almost, if not quite, as convincing as the transitions of the column and arch in architecture.
