Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The date on several of the early gravestones in the Baptist burying ground at Dividing Creek would indi cate that it was used for burials before the Revolution ary war. The custom of burying on private grounds was not uncommon and doubtless many of the early residents were laid to rest in unmarked graves on their own estates. So too, in this old yard were many burials nu recorded, some unmarked. Save for rough native stones. This burying ground is still used for interments, and the inscriptions contained herein were copied from the early stones, and are mostly of persons born previous to 1800.
