Infrastructure and Planning in Central and Eastern Europe

The book will compare and contrast the key problems associated with the planning and implementation of major road investments in selected Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries: Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania. The CEE countries serve as an excellent research field, as no group of states in history has ever had access to such substantial external funding for infrastructure development within a short time frame. At the same time, investment outcomes have varied significantly across individual countries. Spatial planning systems are often cited as one of the factors determining the scale and pace of transport investments.
