Illustrerad katalog över äldre svensk och utländsk skulptur
Nationalmusem is the central museum for Sweden's national collections of paintings, sculpture, applied arts, drawings and prints which, originating in the 16th century, became the property of the nation in 1792, with the institution of the Royal Museum, Nationalmuseum's precursor and one of the first public museums in the world. The sculpture collection includes about 2.300 items. Chronologically these range from classical antiquity to the beginning of hte 20th century, and they include large-scale marble sculptures, smaller terracotta and plaster sketches, plaster medallions, reliefs and portrait busts. The collection consists mainly of Swedish sculptures, but other European countries, France among them, are also represented, not forgetting the unique collection of bronze sculptures by the Dutch born sculpture Adriaen de Vries and Renaissance and Baroque bronzes from Italy and France. The Swedish sculptural tradition is above all represented by Johan Tobias Sergel
