How It All Started With the Shoes

Memoirs of nurse Eva Kahn Minden from 1934 to 1951. She describes training, apprenticeship, and experiences as a nurse helping displaced persons (DPs) at Bergen Belsen concentration camp after liberation. Eva Kahn Minden was born in Germany in 1922. She emigrated to England in 1939 to escape Hitler's Germany and lived there for about thirteen years. She trained in England as a nurse, spent about two years as a relief worker in Bergen Belsen after the war (1946-1948), where she put her nursing skills to good use. Her experiences in Bergen-Belsen brought her to Quare Mead (1949-1950). There she acted as Sister-in-Charge of a group of boys who had survived the Holocaust, but who were recuperating from diseases contracted as a result of their experiences, mostly Tuberculosis.
