This book is intended to be a practical manual to support diagnosis and intervention with families whose household consists only of grandparents and grandchildren. As with any other family change, relationships within and outside the family need to be rethought and renegotiated. There are many individual, intra-family and extra-family challenges to be faced. In a clear and objective game of questions and answers, we aim to cover the complexity of this new family form: full-time caregiving grandparents in the permanent absence of biological parents. How do these grandparents deal with these transitions? What differences are there between these grandparents and normative grandparents? Are there grandchildren living with their grandparents all over the world? How do they adapt to the simultaneity of roles - grandparents and parental responsibilities? What choices do they make regarding their biological children, do they support them or give up?
