The remoteness of the locations ensured that they could avoid the recordkeepers, so DNA has been used to link Caroline to both her family in Birmingham and her children.

With the confirmation of Caroline's mother, her siblings were unearthed. Their remarkable stories have been included as they take the reader through the evolving changes in convict transportation until its eventual cessation.
