Teuchert escaped death in Iwo Jima after a shell landed nearby, hitting him and his fellow marines, but he was seriously wounded, which marked the end of his combat. He retired as a security officer at Naval Surface Weapons Laboratory in Fort Lauderdale. He married Nora Carney in 1945, and they had five children. She died in 2000, and he married Mary Jo Lieb. Teuchert now has eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
