A half century ago, Congress listed cannabis as a highly controlled schedule I substance. Other schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD and ecstasy. Schedule I drugs have no medical value and high potential for abuse. The schedule I designation restricts legitimate medical research about cannabis. Over the years, several entities have submitted petitions to the DEA to reschedule marijuana. This book looks at key issues related to the Schedule I status of marijuana and the gap between federal and state marijuana policies.
