Hong Kong students always want to write profound and long sentences when they write in English. That is to use difficult words. The more difficult to understand, the better. But it's very often that they do not grasp the word meaning, extended meaning and association, which results in the counter result. In addition, they want to write long sentences, so they use a lot of relative pronouns like which, who and that as well as relative clauses. Finally the sentences become as long as bindings. A short sentence is a paragraph. And a long one could occupy half a page without a full stop. And students like to use the sentence structure "e;not only...but also"e;. It almost appears in every article or translation. They should know the longer the sentence is, the easier the grammatical error is made because they cannot give consideration to the agreement of the first half and the second half of the sentence.
