Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. With the exception of a few alterations, either sug gested or accepted by Professor Le Blanc, the present work is as nearly as practicable a literal translation. The rapid advance of the subject within the past few years has rendered treatises which adequately present it scarce, therefore I hope to have satisfied a want, and to have increased the facility of study for the English reader in this field.
