The monograph examines Early and High Gothic church architecture in Western Switzerland. The emphasis is placed on examining the history of the creation of some 50 or more buildings which are either still in existence or for which there is archaeological evidence. He analyzes the artistic appearance and effect of these buildings and their place in the development of local and international architectural history, and offers a discussion of the historical context.
