This work was intended to make one of the Specimens of Foreign Literature, the publication of which was discontinued two or three years since. As probablv many who possess that valuable series of translations will like to connect this one with it, its title, through the courteous permission of the editor of the Specimens, Mr. Ripley, has been adopted.
