Conservation and Management of Forests

A forest is a terrain or landmass that is pre-dominantly occupied by trees giving rise to a green cover. They are diverse biological systems that represent rich biological regions on the Earth. They provide a wide range of habitats for microorganisms, animals and plants. Additionally, forests are also a source of food, clean water, fuel for heating and cooking, wildlife habitat, and medicinal plants. However, they are slowly becoming endangered due to human activities. The practice of planting and maintaining forests for the benefit of the present and future generations is known as forest conservation. The branch of forestry which is involved in the planning and implementation of practices related to the administration of forests is known as forest management.
