7 Things St. Louis de Montfort Says NEVER To Do In Your Devotion To Mary

St. Louis warned...

"As a false coiner does not ordinarily counterfeit anything but gold and silver, or very rarely the other metals, because they are not worth the trouble, so the evil spirit does not for the most part counterfeit the other devotions, but only those to Jesus and Mary, the devotion to Holy Communion, and to our Blessed Lady, because they are, among other devotions, what gold and silver are amongst metals" ("True Devotion to Mary", #89).

Then...

"I find seven kinds of false devotees and devotions to Our Lady" (True Devotion, #92).

The only thing is, he admits he left a lot of things out:

"I have now said many things about the Most Holy Virgin; but I have many more to say, and there are infinitely more which I shall omit, whether from ignorance, inability, or want of time, in the design which I have to form a true client of Mary, and a true disciple of Jesus Christ" (True Devotion, #111).

This Commentary fills in those gaps. In fact, it's the only book the Montfort Fathers have ever called essential to understanding St. Louis' Marian spirituality.

They said:

"The "Commentary on the Treatise on the True Devotion" points out everything the reader must know or remember in order to penetrate completely the immortal masterpiece of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. It is an essential book for whoever desires to learn the Perfect Devotion."

They went on to say that this Commentary "furnishes to readers everything they must know in order to understand and taste the doctrine of Bl. Louis-Marie de Montfort."

Jesus said: "For many are called, but few are chosen" (Mt. 20:16).

St. Peter wrote: "The just man shall scarcely be saved" (1 Pt. 4:18).

And St. Paul said: "With fear and trembling work out your salvation" (Phil. 2:12).

But St. Louis said about this Marian devotion...

"It would be no wonder if, at the hour of death, it should be found that a person faithful to this practice shall, by the means of it, have delivered many souls from Purgatory, and converted many sinners, though he shall have done nothing more than the ordinary actions of his state of life. What joy at his judgment What glory in his eternity " (True Devotion, #172)

Imagine how happy you're going to feel when you meet St. Louis de Montfort for the first time in heaven. You'll thank him for teaching this devotion to Mary. And he'll congratulate you for a life well-lived. And you'll both rejoice.

St. Louis promises you...

"If Mary, who is the tree of life, is well cultivated in our soul by fidelity to the practices of this devotion, she will bear fruit in her own time, and her fruit is none other than Jesus Christ.

"How many devout souls do I see who seek Jesus Christ, some by one way or by one practice, and others by other ways and other practices; and after they have toiled much throughout the night, they say, "We have toiled all night, and have taken nothing " We may say to them, "You have labored much and gained little"; Jesus is yet feeble in you.

"But by that immaculate way of Mary and that divine practice which I am teaching, we toil during the day; we toil in a holy place; we toil but little. There is no night in Mary, because there is no sin nor even the slightest shade. Mary is a holy place, and the holy of holies where Saints are formed and molded" (True Devotion, #218).

The Montfort Fathers testify that this Commentary thoroughly explains this "immaculate way of Mary and that divine practice" which St. Louis taught.

St. John the Apostle wrote: "He that is holy, let him be sanctified still" (Rev. 22:11).

If your devotion to Mary was exactly the same in six months as it is now, would you be ok with that?
