First published in 1949, Cloak of Charity provides a short history of philanthropy in the eighteenth-century. The author asserts that the history of charity is the history of the changes which have occurred in the attitude of the rich towards the poor. The character of philanthropy changed considerably during the course of the eighteenth-century and it is this change that the book traces.
