Chebyshev Splines and Kolmogorov Inequalities

This text describes the development of the theory of extremal functions in nonperiodic functional classes defined by a majorizing modulus of continuity. Its way of introducing new special functions and methods for solving extremal problems should make it useful for applied maths specialists.
