Brief Legal History of Macau

Macau is a city difficult to understand. It is very small but it had been an important bridge for communicating the Chinese and western knowledge during a very long period; it had attracted a lot of scholars to come from the mainland and Europe and America since the mid of Ming Dynasty. They enjoyed themselves so much as to forget to leave. Some passed away in Macau. Although it is small, it had been once the most important trade port in the Far East. Macau port was the greatest among all ports in Guangzhou. Precious goods were in the Cross Gate and rare treasures were in the lotus base. It is a remote city, but it accepts immigrants from all over the world with an open mind. There was no noble and lowly among the Chinese and foreigners here. People with wealth but no morality were also modest. After the Opium War, it became silent. It was obscure like Shangri-la. In recent years, Macau with no big deal attracts people's attention for its rapid development.
