Curwensville, one of the oldest towns in Clearfield County, began as a lumber town. Some of the area''s finest families made their fortunes by harvesting the tall pine trees that were used as ship masts. In the 20th century, industries such as brick making, stone quarries, and tanneries became vital to the community.
