Architects of the Marble Palace

More than forty names of architects or professionals actually performing the duties of an architect (architects, artists, engineers, civil engineers, technicians, builders) will be brought to the reader in this book. During two centuries of the Marble Palace, some of them played a major role (Rinaldi, Bryullov), others have been called architects of the Marble Palace intuitively or conditionally (Quarenghi, Brenna), some were mentioned by mistake with a consonant name or a strange coincidence (architects Kotovs, engineer Chikalev), the fourths had an indirect relation to the Marble Palace as experts and members of the building commission (Rossi, Shtackenschneidei). However most of the architects did make complex design, construction, repair and restoration work inside and outside the Marble Palace.

This book is not a history of the Marble Palace in the literal sense, but traces this history through the works of architects of the Palace.
