Drawing on the author’s long years of scientific and practical experience in the conservation and restoration of icons and aimed at specialists and researchers in the field, this book analyzes the origins and significance of Coptic icons in Egypt from the fourth century BC to the thirteenth century AD, and the materials and techniques used to make them. In view of the lack of Arabic-language works on the professional conservation and documentation of icons, this book also seeks to fill a lacuna by establishing criteria for the documentation and restoration of ancient icons.
