Shopping mall refers primarily to a place where a collection of shops all adjoin a pedestrian area or an exclusively pedestrian street that allows shoppers to walk without interference from vehicle traffic. Shopping mall according to the English Thesaurus Dictionary simply means a specially built covered area containing shops and restaurants, which people can walk between and where cars are not permitted. According to New World Encyclopaedia, a shopping mall is a building that contains retail stores with interconnecting walkways enabling visitors to easily walk from one store to the other.
