Donald Clarence Rogers went from living in a small town in Illinois to CampWheeler, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and finally Fort Dix, New Jerseybefore being shipped out to England during World War II. As a member of the 9th Infantry Division, 39th Regiment, HeadquartersReconnaissance Troop, he went to various locations in North Africa, Sicily,France, Belgium, and Germany, earning a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, twoPurple Hearts, and five Campaign Medals. Everyone called him 9 Lives Rogers because he avoided death so many times. While serving in the war, he wrote letters to his wife, which are included inthis book, along with personal interviews the author conducted with his father.
