The Geography Attitude as author Mike McGuire, The Map Man called it was explained in the Geography Literacy Report by The Gallup Poll in 1993, again by the U.S. Education Department in 1994, and in 2002 by The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and The National Geographic-Roper 2002 Global Geographic Literacy Survey all stating how poorly American students did in testing for geography literacy. U.S. and World Geography is not taught as a core subject in our school systems here in America, but as a part of another subject, such as History or the English Language. This educational trend needs to be reversed because U.S. geography is so vital to our daily lives, global events and our culture.
