Trail

In 1973, the world was a different place. There were no mobile phones, no laptops and no credit cards. International travel was problematic and little was known about distant places like Afghanistan or Timor. The Vietnam War raged and Bangkok was the fleshpot of Asia. In the October, deteriorating relations between Israel and her Arab neighbours would culminate in the Yom Kippur War. That year, the hippie trail between Europe and India lay open. Overland travel between Australia and Europe was possible. In April 1973, I hitched out of Sydney, heading for London. This is my story.
