I did not take this amiss, for I under stood what the motives were which urged her to do so. Immediately after Peace was concluded, I set myself to rewrite what had been destroyed, with the result that it reappeared, but in a much condensed form. Then I lost about a third of my notes at Graspan, near Reitz, when I was a prisoner of war for seven hours. After my escape, I had sufficient time in the field to compose this portion anew, and it now exists completer than it did at first.
