The Black City

The scene of the novel is laid in 1914 – just before the First World War. Erast Petrovich Fandorin is quietly taking a rest in a hotel suite in Yalta. Suddenly, the local town governor, general Dumbadze, simply rushes in with terrible news – witnesses saw an armed insurgent with a sniper rifle make his way to the garden of the tsar''s Livadia Palace. The tsar''s family is in deadly danger. Owing to the great sleuth''s effort, the terrorist is caught. But the conspiracy turns out to be much more dangerous and widespread. So, Fandorin is to go off on a journey to the famous “Black City” – Baku, known for its oil fields. But the way is highly dangerous – the mysterious opponent is one step, or even two steps ahead of the detective. Will Fandorin manage to survive all these woes?..
