List of Paintings in Lucca Around 1500

The painting in Lucca during the Renaissance has a specific quality and shows differences if compared with contemporary style in Florence or Siena. The present research proposes a list including works by citizen artists around 1500, the moment of Ansano Ciampanti and his father Michele. Great companions, Vincenzo Frediani and Michelangelo da Lucca, get their place, while a few minor and still anonymous artists are present. Old nicknames, such as Maestro di Stratonice, Maestro del Tondo Lathrop and Maestro dell'Immacolata Concezione, seem forgotten, but they deserve some attention, together with Maestro della Pala Heim, remembering that they were created not only by Bernard Berenson, but also by other scholars, including Federico Zeri. Three surprising entries deserve a special attention: an Annunciation originated in Bologna, now in Berlin; the most probable painting by Matteo Civitali; the Pala of San Jacopo alla Tomba ordered by the French captain Robert Entraigues.
