History of the Origin of the Place Names

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. While it was not in the plan of the work to furnish a history of the various places referred to, it has nevertheless often happened that the meaning or deriva tion of a name could only be made clear by introducing more or less information of an historic character. In such instances, the historic statement has been used.
