Gender and Character

The investigation is not special, but of principle; she does not despise the laboratory, even if its resources seem limited to her in relation to the deeper problems before the work of the self-observation analysis. The artist who depicts a female being can also give something typical without having legitimized himself in front of an experimental guild of markers through number and series. The artist does not despise experience; on the contrary, he considers it his duty to gain experience; but for him it is only the starting point of an immersion in oneself, which in art appears like immersion in the world. Now the psychology that is used here for presentation is a thoroughly philosophical one, even if its peculiar method, which is justified solely by the peculiar topic, it remains to start from the most trivial body of experience. The philosopher, however, has only one task which differs from that of the artist in terms of form. What is to this symbol becomes to that concept. Like expression and content, so are art and philosophy. The artist breathed in the world in order to breathe it out; for the philosopher it is breathed out and he must breathe it in again.
