Ibn al-Farid, the poet of Sufi ecstasy, swimming in clouds of light in distant horizons, is also the Sultan of Lovers who withdrew from the world, abandoned material life, and traveled the river of divine love, reciting his poetry on the banks of the Nile, engraving the hymns of the soul on the green leaves of trees and the bare vegetation of nature. Ibn al-Farid, this Sufi seeker of the truth of existence in the wonders of existence, was born in Egypt in 576 AH (1181 AD). He was called Ibn al-Farid and became famous because his father used to prove the obligations of women to men before rulers, earning him the title al-Farid. From his name and profession, it is evident that his father was a man of virtue and knowledge, presiding over councils of government and knowledge. It is said that the position of Chief Justice was offered to his father, but he refused, secluding himself and devoting himself to worship in a hall at Al-Azhar Mosque until his death.
