Defending literature

Georges Dehamel, the author of this book, is one of France''s great contemporary writers. He was born in Paris in 1884. He studied medicine like his father and finished it in 1909, but he fell in love with literature when he was young, and he continued to combine the two professions: medicine and literature. We are not concerned with his study and practice of medicine except the impact it had on him. His literature, which we can glimpse in two things: the accuracy of his thinking, and then his humanitarian orientation.Dehamel did not come to literature as others did to escape from reality or because of his failure in anything else, and he does not see in the artist an abnormal person or outside the circumstances of life as the Romantics and Symbolists did after them, and in his book that you will read there is evidence that he is a balanced, wise man with a sound outlook. To life, he cherishes the principles of creation and does not see in genius itself anything that justifies dissolution or calls for it. What he is most happy about is enhancing the talents of creation. To him, a man of genius who has no principles is more like a beautiful whore that men enjoy without that preventing them from despising her. .
