Essay from the year 1996 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1 (A), Free University of Berlin, language: English, abstract: In the following essay, I want to look at how Richard Wright and Ralph Ellison in their novels "e;Native Son"e; and "e;Invisible Man"e; portray the Communist Party (or the Brotherhood, as Ellison calls it). From that starting point I want to investigate inhowfar Ellison and Wright consider the Communist Party capable of solving those problems which result out of racism, or, at least, how the Communist Party lives up to the ideal of the equality of the 'races' which is an important element of communist theory. In my opinion, this topic is a crucial issue in both novels.
