What I Got Instead

Eileen Sommi, plagued by migraines since childhood, grew up believing her pain was normal and rarely spoke of it. Raised in the Christian faith, she began to silently wrestle with these questions as she prayed for healing. She couldn't understand why God wouldn't take her pain away.

One night, with her husband at work, three children running amok, and a baby crying, Eileen broke down in sobs, her tears landing on the hot dogs she was grilling while knee-deep in grass that hadn't been mowed in weeks. She finally came to the end of her ability to press on with life while her head pounded incessantly. God had to help her find a way out of her pain. She insisted he hold true to his promises.

Her desperation demanded a win, her questions deserved an answer, and her body needed a break.
