This Is Art Writing

Writing about art, writing in art, and writing as art. This is Art Writing weaves a narrative that begins with the early 20th century avant-garde and that ends on relational aesthetics and the contemporary curating, via the work of artists and writers including Wallace Berman, BS Johnson, Kathy Acker, and Stewart Home. Art Writing is a practice that uses the methods of writing in order to explore how art is seen and understood, as well as functioning as a mode of visual art making in its own right. This book asserts that writing can be art, if it asserts itself so, and describes the boundaries of its practice - that include fiction, biography, history, and criticism. This book features primary research, opinion, and interviews with a wide range of internationally-renowned artists and writers, and with curators and directors from institutions including Whitechapel Gallery, Serpentine Gallery, and Tate Britain.
