This is a story for young readers, and it starts in a little village in Germany about 2500 years ago.
Helga is about nine years old when her father dies after a short illness. The village headman has moved her and her mother to the outskirts of the village close to the surrounding forests.
It is there that she comes face to face with the great wolf leader the villagers have called Diablo because of his cunning and ferocity. She is saved by a stranger on a great black horse and is given a gift that will always protect her. It an enchanted bow made of the wood of a Laumae or Tree-Spirit. It will never miss its mark.
In time, he becomes her friend, and he teaches her swordsmanship and to become an expert in all weapons.
When she grows up, she marries the chieftain's son and becomes a great leader among her people. Her greatest secret is that her son Erik is the son of the stranger and has inherited his powers which are unleashed when the village is threatened by the invading Roman army.
The superstitious villagers force Erik into exile and he goes north and meets up with the queen of the magical people, Arys who is his half-sister.
This series of books is about Erik and how he realizes his destiny and discovers a whole world just on the edge of our collective consciousness.
