The story is set in an alternative 2012, where the Victorian Empire is still alive and well with maintained ownership of India and Hong Kong. Trevor, young and inexperienced at war, now serves as a soldier in the Victorian military. He is dispatched to Calcutta, India with his platoon in order to squash growing resentment against the Victorian Empire. In Calcutta, Trevor meets Michael, an Indian soldier in the Victorian army.
